Laurel Lodge

If you’ve got a large crowd coming to enjoy the peace and quiet Laurel Lodge is ideal. This retreat spot features 12 rooms and the spacious Rhododendron Hall conference room that accommodates 100 people. The possibilities for events and social gatherings here are plentiful.


Surrounded by wildflowers, maples and rustling white oaks, this mountain lodge is just the place to unwind from the hectic pace of modern life and settle deeper into your faith.

Carolina Hemlock (Betty’s House)

The original home of High Pastures founder, Betty Motsinger, this white stone, two-story gabled ranch house accommodates up to 22 people. This retreat spot is air-conditioned, quiet and secluded. It contains 8 bedrooms, a dining room that seats 20, a meeting room and a flagstone fireplace to gather round in the evenings with a cup of tea.

With an elevation of 3500 feet, Carolina Hemlock overlooks King’s Mountain and Green Mountain. You can step out on the porch and take in the gentle, sweeping contours of the mountains and lush horizons of High Pastures in this little slice of Appalachian heaven.

Cost: $39/person (14 people minimum)

Poplar Place

This quaint lodge seems to have grown right out of the boulders that border it. This peaceful refuge can accommodate up to 30 people, with a minimum of 15. 

Complete with 8 comfortable bedrooms, a conference room, a full kitchen and a cozy fireplace, your group will be sure to have all of the common and private space that you need to enjoy during your retreat.

Poplar Place provides easy access to the Prayer Tower and the Yellow Trail, which connects

the Crest Trail and the Red Trail.

Cost: $39/person.

Singing Waters Dorm

This facility built astride a mountain stream is the perfect place to find serenity as you listen to the sweet babble of the water. Surrounded by lush rhododendrons, Singing Waters Dorm accommodates up to 50 people, with a minimum of 15. With 6 comfortable bedrooms, bunk beds, a conference room and kitchen, this lodge includes everything your group will need on your relaxing retreat into reverent tranquility.

Singing Waters is within walking distance to the Prayer Tower and game area, which is popular for kids and the young-at-heart. The area includes horseshoes, cornhole and a volleyball court. 

So, if you’re looking for the perfect balance of relaxation, worship and play just around the bend, this spot is perfect.

Log Cabin

Tucked away like a fairytale, this historic cabin has been restored and prepared for some true mountain relaxation. With two comfortable bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and fireplace, the Log Cabin beckons the weary spiritual traveler with the embrace of old-timey simplicity. This spot is a rustic gem.

History: The Log Cabin was acquired by our founder in the 1960s from the Crane family, moved and restored piece by piece.

Dogwood Den

A charming Appalachian cabin with a wrap-around porch, Dogwood Den greets you with gleaming pine floors and a cozy fireplace.

Flanked by Dogwood and Sycamore trees, this retreat space accommodates 4-5 people. With two comfortable bedrooms, a friendly kitchen and a convivial living room, this spot lends itself to a small group or family.

Guests of Dogwood Den may enjoy hiking along the mile-long Prayer Tower Trail where they can then build a campfire at the Prayer Tower fire pit.

Galax Glade & Burch Burrow (Cabins)

What better way to melt away the material obsessions and anxieties of modern existence than to find a sweet, rustic cabin in the woods to rest in? These two adorable, rough-hewn bungalows, nestled away in a grove of galax and shady birches, accommodate (2) people each and contain fully equipped kitchenettes.

These modest, yet soulful cottages are located just off the trail from Laurel Lodge to the dining hall. The winding, mountainous Red Trail head begins close-by and offers panoramic views of the Black Mountain range.

Enjoy the sounds of the stream flowing nearby as you sip your coffee on the porch, and quietly connect with God.

  • 1 Double Bed in Galax

  • 1 Queen Bed in Birch Burrow
